How to Set a Custom Homepage in Firefox

Want to change what Firefox opens to? Firefox lets you set a custom homepage, but extensions are required for startup and new tab pages.

The fast way

Don't see a home button? Keep reading.

Full setup

1. Set your homepage

  1. Open Firefox Settings (click the menu (☰) then Settings)
  2. Click Home in the sidebar (or paste about:preferences#home in the address bar)
  3. Under Homepage and new windows, select Custom URLs...
  4. Enter your custom URL (e.g., https://nugs.gg/start)

2. Enable the home button (optional)

  1. Right-click on the toolbar
  2. Click Customize Toolbar...
  3. Drag the Home button to your toolbar
  4. Click Done

Done

Click the home button. You should see your custom homepage. (Need one? Try nugs.gg/start 😉)

What about startup and new tabs?

Firefox doesn't let you set a custom URL for startup or new tabs without an extension.

If you want a custom startup or new tab page, you'll need a "New Tab Override" extension from Firefox Add-ons.

Troubleshooting

Firefox homepage not working? Make sure you selected "Custom URLs..." under "Homepage and new windows" and entered a valid URL starting with "https://".

Firefox home button not visible? Right-click the toolbar → Customize Toolbar → drag the Home button to your toolbar.
