Privacy
The short version
We don't track you. We don't sell your data. We don't do the creepy shit Big Tech does.
Our philosophy
Privacy is a feature, not a religion.
We reject both extremes. We're not Google - you're not the product here. But we're also not going to pretend that running a website requires zero data. The question isn't "do we collect data?" - it's "what's the exchange?"
What we will never do:
- Sell your data to anyone
- Track you across other websites
- Build profiles on people who never signed up
- Use dark patterns to trick you into sharing more
- Make it hard to delete your data or unsubscribe
What we will do:
- Store your preferences locally on your device by default
- Use anonymous analytics to understand which features people use (not who uses them)
- Offer optional accounts for sync (Nostr for sovereignty, Google for convenience)
- If you give us your email for updates, use it to send you updates
- If you're a power user who gave us your email, occasionally mention premium features
That's it. No 47-page disclosure written by lawyers to confuse you. Just a clear exchange: you use the tools, we make them better, nobody gets exploited.
The details
Your data stays local
Nugs.gg stores your preferences (backgrounds, settings, uploads) locally in your browser using IndexedDB. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to sync it.
Anonymous analytics
We count things like page views and feature clicks - "shuffle was clicked 4,521 times this week." No user IDs attached, no cookies, no tracking across sites. This helps us understand what's useful and what's not.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to make the site work. No tracking cookies, no third-party advertising cookies.
External services
When you use image categories, we fetch photos from the Unsplash API. That request goes to Unsplash's servers - check their privacy policy for how they handle it.
Optional accounts (coming soon)
When we add Nostr and Google login, you'll be able to sync preferences across devices. Nostr keeps you in full control of your keys. Google is there for people who just want convenience. Your choice. Neither required.
Email (if you give it)
If you sign up for updates, we'll email you updates. Maybe occasionally let you know about new features or premium stuff. You can unsubscribe anytime and we'll actually stop. We don't sell your email to anyone.
Your control
Clear your browser data and your local stuff is gone. Unsubscribe from emails and we stop emailing. Delete your account (when accounts exist) and we delete your data. No tricks, no "we'll keep it for 7 years for legal reasons" nonsense.
